Dakin's Community Spay/Neuter Clinic is offering FREE spay/neuter for cats and kittens who live in:

You can use this program if you need financial assistance with your kitten/cat’s surgery, and live in one of the above zip codes. All cats using this program will also receive a rabies and FVRCP (distemper) vaccination.

Update January 2012: Grant funds are still available for female cats with this program!  We are out of funds for male cats with this program.  Please give us a call and we can talk about what programs are currently available to help your male cat.  Have a female cat?  Please call today- when the grant funds for females are gone, they're gone!

Why we offer this program:

Across the Pioneer Valley, more than three-quarters of the animals entering area animal shelters are cats. In 2010, of the nearly 6,000 homeless animals served by Dakin, more than 4,000 were cats. As part of Dakin's Three Year Plan to Adoption Guarantee, we must reduce the number of litters born to cats. This grant will help us assist those community members who want to neuter their cat but have no financial resources to do so.

Why these communities?

Of the 75 towns Dakin served in 2010, nearly 50% of the kittens came from only these 12 communities! Our plan is to strategically reach the people whose cats are most likely to have kittens that end up homeless. And our statistics tell us to start in these towns.

Pretty One is 10 years old, (seen here with Clinic Assistant Jenny,) and she’s been having several litters each year since becoming an adult. We tried to find out from her people exactly how many litters she’s had, but they haven’t really been keeping track. We do know her last litter was this past spring because we spayed and neutered those little ones last week.

Pretty One was spayed at no charge to her people, with the generous assistance of PetSmart Charities® which helps Dakin provide spay/neuter for felines in the communities producing the most kittens.

We're sure this pretty lady will be relieved to never be pregnant again; after 10 years, her body deserves a rest!
